Sustainability development 2020

We follow our sustainability impact through our long-term goals that have been defined for each theme of our sustainability programme. To measure our achievement, we have set key performance indicators (KPI) for the strategy period. Please click the long-term goal to see our sustainability performance in 2020.

Our long-term sustainability goals

Goals for 2020-2022 Development in 2020
Development of new health-promoting services The goal became a special priority due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We supported people especially through our Kronans Apotek pharmacies, where we launched new services for risk groups for getting their medicines in a safe way, for example via drive-in or call and pick up services. Kronans Apotek also launched COVID-19 antibody testing, and by the end of the year more than 70,000 citizens had been tested.
High-quality pharmaceutical deliveries Oriola delivers pharmaceuticals within 24 hours of ordering to all pharmacies and hospital pharmacies, as well as other healthcare units in Sweden and Finland. We are developing a standard quality measure for pharmaceutical deliveries.
Increasing sustainable products in private labels to cover 20% of the product range In Sweden, the sustainability criteria for Oriola's own range of pharmacy products were defined during 2020, and 18% of the range is sustainably classified, for example products that have received the Nordic Swan Ecolabel or another well-known eco-label.
Goals for 2020-2022 Development in 2020
Raising the employee engagement index to at least 80 In 2020, the employee engagement index was 78 (77 in 2019).
Having an employee turnover of maximum 12% In 2020, the employee turnover was 10.2% (9.2% in 2019).

Goals for 2020-2022 Development in 2020
Increasing the share of renewable energy to 100% in our properties We took a significant leap in renewable energy utilisation, as the Mankkaa property in Finland switched to the use of renewable district heating. With the change, 92% of our used energy comes from renewable sources (77% in 2019). The transition to district heating also had a significant impact on our total CO2 emissions.
Recycling at least 85% of all non-pharmaceutical waste We have systematically increased possibilities to sort waste in recent years. In 2020, we started collecting plastic packaging in Finnish office premises, for example, and recycling the wooden pallets at the Swedish central warehouse. As a result, Oriola's recycling rate increased to 74% (71% in 2019).
